Beth Konicki realized how much she enjoyed learning about different careers while she was an undergraduate at SUNY Brockport and had the opportunity to work in the school’s Career Development Center. She also found that she loved helping other students discover what they were excited about doing in the future. A school counselor in her ninth year at Whitney Point High School, Mrs. Konicki was just selected as a New York State Master Counselor through the State University of New York Master Teacher/Master Counselor program!
What Mrs. Konicki finds best about her job is working with the students. “I love working in the high school because I feel like I have just as much to learn from the students as they do from me,” she shared.
She hopes that being a Master Counselor will help her to come up with new and innovative ideas for helping students find their passions and achieve their goals. She is also excited about the benefits of networking and collaborating with other counseling professionals.
Mrs. Konicki is one of just two NYS Master Counselors announced this year for the Southern Tier region, joining four who were selected as the first cohort of Master Counselors in November 2023 after Governor Hochul expanded the Master Teachers program.
