In addition to the greenhouse club at Tioughnioga Riverside Academy, students recently received Grow Towers for classroom use. These will be for hydroponic growing of greens such as Bibb lettuce, rainbow chard, kale, and other lettuce. Students in Amanda Rice's classroom put the towers together on September 13.

Over the summer, vegetables such as tomatoes and squash from other garden projects funded by a grant through Cornell Cooperative Extension were shared with the community, such as the Lisle Blessing Box. Pumpkins grown will be used in the Grades 4/5 STEAM projects, and other vegetables have been sent home with students.

During Eagle Time on Wednesday, September 25, students in the Greenhouse Club harvested tomatoes and kale.

The ultimate goal for the greens grown using the Grow Towers will be to use it in the cafeteria for school meals!

Many thanks to Amanda Rice for her photos!
