Whitney Point Teachers & Staff "Believe"

Students aren’t the only ones getting ready for a new school year! Our teachers and staff gathered Sept. 8 for Convocation  - a day of inspiration, learning and looking ahead to an exciting year for Whitney Point students.
 
Welcomed by new Superintendent Shannon Pitcher-Boyea, the district celebrated employees reaching service milestones and kicked off the year with this year’s theme: Believe. She shared John Hattie's definition of Collective Teacher Efficacy (CTE), which is the belief that teachers’ shared belief in their collective ability to improve learning the single strongest influence on student achievement! 
 
Staff received “Believe” cards and signs to write their own belief on the back and display as a daily reminder of the powerful impact their belief in themselves, and in their students, can have.
 
Keynote speaker Trevor Muir challenged staff to make learning purposeful, sharing inspiring examples of students tackling real-world projects that connect classroom learning to their communities, their futures and the Portrait of a Graduate.
 
The learning continued with professional development from BT-BOCES presenters Jackie Townsend, "We Are All Literacy Teachers," and Dustin Andrus and Marissa McNamara, "Artificial Intelligence in Education."
 
And, of course, we celebrated some very special milestones! Congratulations to Kimberly Tyler, Karen Crandell, Kim Becker, Cindy Rego and Troy Rounds on their years of service to Whitney Point CSD. 
 
A day to Believe in what’s possible... and in the difference we can make together. Here’s to a fantastic 2026-27 school year!
